One of the greatest misconceptions about soil is that darker soil is better soil. Almost all soil is dark when wet or the moisture content is high. Many consumers expect that bulk soils will have the same look and appearance as pre-packaged potting and garden soils they find at their local nursery or home improvement store. If left to dry out from their packaging, these soils will lighten as moisture content evaporates.

Darker soil can indicate increased organic matter, however most darker soils in general originate from wetland areas and can be acidic, finely textured and lacking in nutrients.

Our proprietary EXSEED® Topsoil uses the best raw materials and EXSEED® Compost to make a balanced and consistent blend that performs better than “darker” alternatives. Try EXSEED® Topsoil for yourself and experience the difference for your landscape.
